Can You Suggest A Good Hobby For Me?

I am in my lower 30s and a single mom. Looking for a hobby that is fun but not too time consuming. And I don’t like knitting, so please don’t suggest that!

Drawing. Do you like art at all? How about learning a language? How about reading (books and magazines)? How about crafts including sewing and scrapbooking? What about gardening? Do you like dance and physical fitness like pilates and yoga or bellydancing? Do you like music? You could learn to read music and learn to play an instrument? How about sports? You could see about joining an adult league? I played softball on a women’s team. It was a lot of fun. How about theatre? How about joining a choir? How about volunteering in your community? There are lots of volunteer positions that are interesting and fulfilling.
It sounds like you need to get out there and try different things. That is the only way that I know. If you go in with a poor attitude then you’ll get what you put in.

Go visit your local Sweet Adeline chorus! Learn to sing, meet new friends, get away from the house for an evening each week. Lots of women catch the bug to sing in 4 part harmony in the barbershop style, and it can become a passion! There are lots of other ways to develop and use your talents, be they musical, creative, organizing, leadership, costuming (probably not knitting!!), makeup, fundraising, public relations etc. Many of us develop close, lifetime friendships and support systems. There’ll be women of all ages and backgrounds. I love my chorus and have belonged for about 14 years, and I can’t imagine not belonging to this wonderful organization. I am in my lower 40s and my children are grown, but there are lots of younger mothers in my group. Search for Sweet Adelines, International and browse around the website. You can find out where and when your nearest chapter rehearses.

Start a collection of some sort (shells, cutlery, stamps, pens/pencils, stationery, images, belts…).
    Scrapbooking?
Take up a weekly sport or an instrument.
    Photography
    Gardening.
    Pottery/painting/drawing…
    Check this website out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hob…
I think it lists virtually every single existing hobby on earth.

I took up sewing when I was 14 and sew for my kids now. If you are a single mom, that might take too much time away from your child.
It really depends on the age of your child, and how long you are able to go with out them being in your lap.
If they are 6 or so, sewing is feasible.
If you have a baby, something quieter might be better.
Crocheting is nice, you can hold a baby and crochet… I used to use a baby sling, they are awesome.
Good luck finding time for your self, so much changes when you have a child. Try looking for things to do through your church, there are bound to be other single mom’s there, too.

A hobby is something that you enjoy doing. It can really be anything.
    you could:
    scrapbook
    make greeting cards
    Photography
    Walking or any exercise
take a class with your child ( depending on age) like art or dance.
Any hobby can be time consuming or expensive you just have to look at what you are willing to spend on the hobby… and how much time you can put aside for it.

Definitely scrapbooking! It is a great way to preserve your memories and you can make the pages very simple or very detailed (depending on money, time, etc.). This is also a great way to involve your child(ren) and make it time well spent together (if they’re old enough to ‘help’). Good luck and have fun! :)

I love my Machine embroidery. There are alot of free designs out there and people love gifts with their name on it. You can get an embroidery machine that sews also, then make monogrammed pillows or baby blankets real easy. When you get experienced you can purchase the software to make you own embroidery designs. Most take about 30 minutes to sew out. Be careful though, it is contagious. Let me know if you need any help deciding on one. If you want to get an idea about the software, I teach it and have a free newsletter at http://www.pedezine.com. Download one and read. You can “digitize” any true type font in about a minute.
Good luck, By the way, our local sewing machine shop gives lessons free when you buy the machine.

Scrap booking. Great way to organize the kids’ pictures, you can do as few or as many pages as you want.
Painting? Either pictures or you could get the kits to build bird houses and such, then paint them.
I would wander around a local craft store, or at least the crafting section of Walmart. See what “jumps out”.
    Best of luck!

Honestly-you many think I’m crazy, but I’m 26, and just got my motorcycle license! And it’s not too hard to do.
First, study and get your permit. Then, not sure what state you are in, but there are classes that DOT offers. They are usually just 4 classes for 5hrs each. They TEACH you how to ride if you never have (which was me). Then at the end of the class if you passed the written test and driving test, they give you your license. In PA the class is FREE.
There are many different magazines out there that you can look through. Get all your gear, and figure out which type of bike you’d be interested in. This would even open you up to getting a scooter. I’m looking for a used sports bike for my first bike. That way I’m not paying over $2000.
A BIG PLUS-easy on gas for this summer’s high prices.

Depends on your definition of “not too time consuming.”
A hobby is only as time consuming as you spend doing it.
    Try golf or fishing.
