The 13 year old is my nephew and it is an annual beach trip with his parents, his 11 year old brother, his 7 year old sister, my mom and my 7 year old daughter. We have always had a great time doing arts and crafts but last year I realized that he was getting a little old for the stuff we have always done and I really don’t know what a guy his age would find “cool” to do….. I really don’t want to embaress him, I just want him to have fun. Any ideas?

I’m 13 so perfect for me to answer.
Now, I don’t know him..but please don’t make him,
UNLESS he wants to.
If he does, then to start off, thats weird.
Try making boys necklace.
I know I would love to make a cool one.
Or bracelets (boy’s!!)
Those are really cool and recommended.
I’d get one if I had the materials.
Build airplanes, cars and boats you can buy in kits from the hobby shop.
Painting, drawing and one is never too old to build sandcastles.
wood burning, models, building birdhouses, making key chains with that plastic lace stuff, have him be in charge of photoraphy & the rest of you can make scrapbooks with the pics he take.
Actually you might find this rather cool, especially # 4 the solar powered bug, as it isn’t all that expensive and something that he could build. Perhaps have the boys make these while the girls do more girl like things:) That way he wouldn’t be singled out and the boys are closer together in age anyway.

model airplanes would also be something they could “craft” together from a kit and use on the beach.

go to michaels craft store they have an entire ile for kids summer activities. Try side walk chalk and model planes. Kites and other out door things. Or just ask him!
Any teenager focuses on him or herself. Find out what your sons favorite things are and hand him a camera. Then show him how to scrapbook. Now, I know you think scrapbooking is just a “girl thing” and certainly boys don’t scrapbook like girls do; but it can be just as fun for a teenage boy. In my store we have a scrap group of teenage boys that are doing military books of their dads. I have one boy that scrapbooks race cars,(he and his dad travel to indy races) and another boy who scrapbooks his bmx races. There are sports books and anime books, etc. The trick is to find that subject of personal interest. On a vacation he can be the official family photographer and the whole family can scrapbook what he takes. If your son is a writer, maybe you can take the photos and he could write the memories that go on the page. You can also do a photo scavenger hunt. Make a list of items that have to be photograhged during the trip. This game can really make all of your children focus more on sightseeing.
Here’s a great idea
Encourage your nephew to take pictures and collect all kinds of memorabilia during his beach vacation. He can then put together a fun beach vacation scrapbook.
